UPGRADED ANDROID SECURITY AND DEVICE

With three new updated softwares which are made to improve productivity for workers who use Google Apps for Business and Google Apps for Education, Google tried to reinforce security and management for both Android smartphones and tablets.

Nowadays, many businesses allow their employees to bring their personal Android and iPhone devices to the office since for the last decade Blackberry smartphones dominated most of employees’ activities.

This situation requires IT administrators to adjust specifically to the necessary preferences for workers and discover ways to organize them. Although many companies—Good Technology, Sybase, Mobile Iron, and ZenPrice—offer solutions to manage these issues, Google decides to propose Google management applications for Google Apps collaboration software.

A new version of the Google Apps Device Policy application has just been launched on April 7. That app will allow employees to secure their lost or stolen Android devices.

Through the app, users can locate their Android smartphones on a map, ring the device, and remotely reset the device PIN or password via the new My Devices website.

This app can successfully be used on devices running on Android 2.2 or higher and can be downloaded through the Android Market.

Google also presents Google Apps Lookup, a new corporate contacts app that will help employees to contact their partners.

With this app, users will be able to call, email, and send instant message or a text message only by speaking or typing the name or email address of the addressee. To use this, administers have to switch the “Shared Contacts” option on in the control panel for workers since the Lookup gathers info from the Google Apps directory.

Through this upgraded app, administrators will also be able to remotely erase all data, lock idle device, require a password, and set a specific password for their devices.
